Food Drive

Brought to you by Calhan NHS/Leo Club! During the week of November 12th, a food drive is coming to your students! All food will be donated to the local Calhan Food Pantry. Mountain View Essay Contest

Mountain View Essay Contest is available to current juniors. The first-place winner will receive an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour. Essay applications are available in the main hall on the Scholarship Board or at www.mvea.coop/youth-programs. The deadline is November 14, 2019. High School Homecoming Olympics will be held on Friday September 13th, in the afternoon.

Friday September 13th
Come and cheer on the lady bulldogs at their volleyball game against the Banning Lewis Ranch Stallions. Games will start at 5:00pm. Banning Lewis Ranch’s school colors are maroon and gold.
Join us just after sunset for a bonfire across from the football field.

Saturday September 14th
Homecoming Parade is Saturday morning September 14th. The parade begins at 10am. Line up for the parade starts at 9am.

Anyone interested in having a float or other entry in the 2019 Calhan Homecoming Parade, please contact Mrs. Newton at the high school via email: lauren.newton@calhanschool.org or phone (719) 347-2766 ext. 302. The deadline is Thursday, September 12th. The parade route is as follows:
Stage in the parking lot at the District Office on 8th street.
Leave from the west entrance of the parking lot.
Proceed east (right) on 8th St. to Colorado St.
Turn north (left) onto Colorado St. and proceed to 5th St. (Rt. 24)
Turn east (right) onto HWY 24. and proceed to Golden St. using the eastbound lane only.
Turn south (right) onto Golden St. and proceed 8th St.
Turn east (left) onto 8th St. and proceed to Bulldog Dr.
Turn south (right) onto Bulldog Dr. and proceed to 10th St.
Turn east (left) onto 10th St.
End at football field.
High School Football Game
The Calhan High School football team will be playing the Dolores Huerta Scorpions on Saturday September 14th . The game will start at 1pm. Dolores Huerta’s school colors are royal blue, gold and white.

9th Grade and New Students Mandatory Student Academy 8/12

9th Grade and New High School Families,
As the newest members of Calhan High School, we want to take this opportunity to welcome you and your students, as well as disperse information about our 9th Grade and New Student Academy. This full day of activities on Monday, August 12th will truly be the first day of school for all 9th graders and new high school students. Please plan on your student attending. Full bus service will be in place along with full meal service for both breakfast and lunch.
The goal of this new event is to better transition and acclimate our students into the high school through relationship building with staff and classmates, as well as having fun with one another as we kick off the school year!
Back to school night will take place for all classes and all grades on the evening of the 12th where all parents and families are welcome to come and meet your students’ teachers. Back to school night will begin at 6:00 PM in the cafeteria with a community fair, followed by teacher introductions in the Main Gym at 6:30 PM.

iPad Rollout for 2019/2020 School Year

The rollout days for students will be:
July 29th through August 2nd from 8am to 4pm
August 5th and 6th from 8am to 4pm
All families with students from 6th – 12th grade are invited and encouraged to come during these days, whichever times fit your schedules, to checkout the needed device for the 2019/2020 school year.
During this time, we will check out devices to students who have met all paperwork and financial requirements. The Technology Staff will also be available during these times to help with any issues that may arise during setup and answer any iPad/1-1 related questions. There will also be an area setup to collect insurance payments if needed. Please read carefully through the iPad Packet before signing as it has all of the details of the 1-1 initiative.

The Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado Scholarship

The Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado will be awarding two $5,000 scholarships to high school students who have demonstrated a commitment to caring for the outdoors and intend to pursue a degree in a field related to natural resources or outdoor recreation at an accredited 2 or 4 year college in Colorado. The deadline for this scholarship is March 18, 2019. Applications and detailed information can be found on the scholarship board in the main hall.

Lockheed Martin Scholarship

Lockheed Martin Scholarship - Lockheed Martin will be awarding 200 scholarships in the amount of $10,000 for graduating seniors planning to pursue a college major in engineering and computer science.
